L1s get Cup win away vs. Newbridge
By YMCA HC Committee
The early start did not deter them
The prospect of a 11am start in Naas of a Saturday morning looked like it was going to be one of the less glamorous fixtures so far this season. The match started under the murky grey skies of Naas, the proper first “cold” morning match of the season. A couple of early injuries, one which saw Ahlannah come off before the match had even got going, which meant Coach Waz was left to do some re-jigging, the ever young Pod stepped up to left mid and Sweeners came on and had a towering performance at right back. Newbridge play an unusual 4-4-2 formation which I am pretty sure confuses them as much as potentially the opposition. However once again we got caught out in the opening few minutes, Newbridge took their chance and put it in the net before we’d got ourselves together. However with Emily, Coups and Hannah linking up really well we were on the attack and our second PC Emily and Coups baffled the Newbridge defenders and took a PC straight from the training pitch and put it in the back of the net. Back level at half time, definitely the best half-time team talk we’ve had all season from the young Vincent girls. Second half started more brightly with some more strong work all over the pitch however it took a trick shot move created by Shauna and Emma to eventually defeat the Newbridge defence, Shauna put Emma through in the circle and somehow through some reverse stick magic Emma put it past the floundering Newbridge keeper. Hannah was unlucky not to make it 3-1 when her effort from a PC hit the post. It wasn’t pretty as the time, weather and location dictated but it has us in next round of the cup vs. Railway after Christmas.
