It’s been a great season so far for the YM colts. Our Saturday morning colts have been blessed with largely fine weather which has helped with the good attendance levels.
Our numbers continue to grow steadily season on season which is a great testimony to both the coaching and to the parents for spreading the word about us. Growth of our numbers at junior colts is an important element of the overall success of the club, so please continue to pass on the word. Spaces are available and in particularly for boys as we endeavour to keep a gender balance at the training sessions.
If there are parents who would like to assist at any particular class age group, with either coaching or age group administration please let us know.
Leinster hockey http://www.leinsterhockey.ie now run junior leagues for boys and girls from 6th class upwards, and YM have teams participating at all age groups.
For the younger ones interclub blitzes are intermittently arranged by clubs on Sundays, and we attend as many of these as possible.
We use TEAMER when advising of matches or blitzes. Can I encourage parents to please respond promptly to these notifications, it helps greatly with organisation. We try to share the blitz invitations out as best we can so that everybody gets playing opportunities.
A big congratulations to Holly Micklem and Fionn Marriot on making their Leinster underage debuts, on the girls and boys U16 teams respectively this Autumn
Holly and Fionn are both still young enough to be eligible for U16s selection next autumn – so a really great achievement for both of them. Keep up the hard work
Holly who plays in goals was also part of the Wesley junior girls team alongside fellow clubmates Alex Dunlop, Abby O'Sullivan, and Joni Adams who reached the final of the Leinster schools junior cup. It is great to see YM girls featuring in these prestigious events.
Both Jack and Ben O'Grady made the Leinster U18s interpro side in November, while David Mawhinney progressed from the Irish U18s side straight into the Irish U21s panel which is a great achievement.
Colts in Senior Hockey:
The last couple of seasons under the direction of Jason Klinkradt we have seen the development of underage colts progressing on to senior teams in the club.
This year has been no exception with current U16 colt Richard Williams making his Mens 1s debut in Leinster Division 1, and U16 Mathew McCabe with Mens 2s in Leinster Division 2.
On the junior girls side current U16 Emma Pichot has made her Ladies 1s debut in Leinster Division 2, while a number of our junior girls have played with the ladies 2s side (Division 7).
Playing at senior level is a big step up but can be invaluable in player development. Well done to all the colt players and a big thanks to the senior team captains and coaches for their welcome and encouragement of all our youth.
We are back in UCD on Saturday 14th January and for our older colts in Wesley on Friday 13th.
Kind Regards & Happy New Year!
See you soon.
