YMCA HC win Leinster Division 1 for the first time in 37 years

6 months ago By YMCA HC Committee

A 10-1 victory over Rathgar secured the title on the final day of the season

YMCA went into the game level on points with Corinthians and UCD but ahead on goal difference. The final round of games were all taking place at the same time meaning that there was many worried calls being made on the sideline to the other venues.

Following a nervy opening 20mins, the game sat at 1-1. However news from the other games was encouraging as it appeared Corinthians and UCD were also struggling. From this point the M1s never looked back, leading 4-1 at half time, and leaving nothing to chance with a dominant performance in the 2nd half, slotting 6 to finish 10-1.

Hattricks from both Thom Ritchie and Jamie Tobin as well as goals from Ben Campbell, Daniel Ellison, Grant Glutz and Sam Hyland sealed the title as UCD dropped points and Corinthians couldn't overhaul YM's goal difference.

As a result YM have qualified for round 2 of the EYHL playoff, taking place in Cork on 28/29 April with a place in next year's EYHL at stake. The draw for this will take place on 15th April. So that means it's roadtrip time!! Wear red and black and let's bring all the support all the support we can to Cork!!
