Wesley College and YMCA Hockey Club are jointly applying for a Sport Capital Grant to resurface an artificial hockey pitch at Wesley College, Ballinteer, that’s currently unsuitable for competitive hockey. The project has a total cost of €252,000 and the applicants seek a Grant of €150,000 to compliment YMCA funds.
YMCA Hockey Club will be based at Wesley College should this grant be approved. The resurfaced pitch will allow a significant increase in the numbers playing hockey in the area, both girls/ladies and boys/men. The new facility will see over 350 new active participants from YMCA Hockey Club and local National Schools. This has the potential to be a wonderful community facility.
YMCA Hockey Club currently has 330 playing members with girls’, boys’, ladies’ and men’s teams competing in Leinster leagues. Wesley College has 420 students playing hockey with 18 girls’ and 11 boys’ teams competing in Leinster competitions. The resurfacing of the main hockey pitch at the College will facilitate a growth in numbers playing at both the Club and the School and enable local National Schools develop their Hockey programmes.
This is a valuable opportunity to increase participation in sporting activity in the community at a time when physical activity needs to be promoted.
Wesley College and YMCA Hockey Club anticipate significant support for this development and look forward to the approval of this application for a Sport Capital Grant Application.
