2016 marks the tenth anniversary of the founding of the Ladies section of YMCA Hockey Club, when the ever ambitious and visionary Aimée Powderly put the wheels in motion to create what has come to be known by many as the mighty Dragons! After finishing up hockey in UCD, Aimée saw the potential for a Ladies club, composed of recent graduates who missed the camaraderie of playing together. There is no doubt that Aimée was the driving force behind the establishment of what is now a thriving club for all ages.
To celebrate this momentous occasion, the original players from all those years ago will be playing a match against the current players on Saturday 21st May in Wesley College at 2.30pm. Coaches past and present will be in attendance to offer tactical words of wisdom and the party will continue into the evening at a mystery location...
YMCA Ladies have achieved phenomenal success since 2006 from their humble beginnings in Div. 13. Over the past ten years, they have picked up numerous Cup and League titles, as well as winning the Irish Hockey Challenge Cup in 2009 and 2010. They now boast two Ladies teams with the firsts standing steady in Div. 2 and the seconds in Div. 7, having gained promotion once again this season. All this is thanks to a heady mixture of determination, hard graft (and not to mention a little bit of luck!) over the years by players, coaches, loyal supporters and wider club members combined.
As such, we would like to invite all club members, past and present, your families and friends to mark the occasion by coming to support the Ladies on the 21st May. Judging by the current level of, shall we say, ‘enthusiasm’ between the two vintages of players, it is sure to be a competitive affair! We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible in Wesley on the day.
