Greetings YMers!

Thanks to everyone who attended last weeks YM Dinner in The Dropping Well. I hope you will all agree that it was a fantastic night – sore heads all round the next morning! A special thanks to our guest speaker Neil Webb who was hilarious, and to everyone who entered the raffle and bought items in the auction. For those who made purchases please make payment for items asap! Congratulations to Wazzer who won the Vice Presidents Cup for all of his work over the past number of years in keeping the Club running.

Despite a lot of two days hangovers amongst club members, last weekends matches were pretty successful all in all. The Men’s 1sts came back victorious from their trip to the airport with a 3-1 win over Fingal. This puts them in second in the 1st Division, a point behind Pembroke . Things are very close in the top three slots so this weekend’s match against 4th place Glenanne is a crucial one. If you would like to support the 1sts they will be playing at 1.30 on the back pitch in Three Rock as there is no pitch availability in Alex.

The Ladies 1sts had an epic match in the second round of the Irish Hockey Trophy against Munster 1st Division side UL. With things all square at 1-1 after full time the game went to a nail biting extra time. Despite being camped in the opposition half no golden goal was forthcoming so the match fell to flicks to be decided. A fantastic save by goalie Anna Keohane and some pretty good goals by our flickers saw the Dragons come out deserving victors! The draw for the third round will be made this Monday with the game to be played on Jan 28th. This Sat sees the girls play Railway 3rds in the Div 3 / 4 Cup – with Railway in 2nd place in the Division above us this will be yet another big test for the Dragons.

The two day hangovers must have been worse for the Men’s 2nd XI as they came second in their game against league leaders Fingal 2nds – losing by 4 goals to 2. Perhaps reflective of how much they drank on Thursday night?? Hopefully there will be no alcohol in their systems this Saturday as they take on Glennane 2nds in the Irish Junior Cup. This match is at 4.15 in Tallaght – best of luck lads!

The Ladies 2nds were unlucky to draw their game last Saturday against a tough Newbridge side – with Captain Eimear O Donnell breaking a bone in her hand and defender Katie Darling also going off with an injured ankle which will put her out for a while, the Ladies will be out for revenge as they get to play Newbridge again this Saturday in the Div 11/12 Cup which they will be hoping to retain this season. Here's hoping for a decisive victory for them!

The Thirds are opening up something of a lead in Division 5 as they recorded yet another victory last Saturday with a 4-1 win over Pembroke. They are away to Skerries this Sat in the first round of the Intermediate cup – the Fourths have a bye into the second round of the same cup and will play Fingal 3rds on Jan 14th.

The Fourths also had another win last Sat with a 1-0 victory of the Glens – this weekend they are away to Pembroke 5ths and need to keep on winning to give Athy a run for their money at the top of Division 6.

The Mens 5ths were very unlucky last Sunday in their cup match against Bray. It was looking like extra time with both teams notching up three goals, but on the final whistle Bray nicked a goal to make it 4-3, so the Fifths cup dream is over for this season. This weekend they take on table toppers Pembroke 6ths in the league.

Good luck to everyone playing this weekend – lots of Cup action all round – lets have lots of wins please!!
