This Saturday our Mens 1sts have a must win game in the second round of the Irish Hockey League at home in Alex against Annadale. Only a month ago we lost out to Annadale in the first round of the Irish Senior Cup so there is a lot at stake in this game, not least the chance to restore some much needed pride to the team.

As there are no other mens matches being played on Saturday please do your very best to come along to Milltown at 1.30 and get behind the lads. I know that they are gunning for revenge so it should be a fantastic match to watch - so get on your black and red and get to the game. (And to the Dropping Well afterwards for post match analysis!)

Last weekend results were a mixed bag for the mens teams with both our 1sts and 2nds losing out to in form Monsktown teams. By all accounts the 2nds match was a thriller and the lads were unlucky to come out the wrong side of a 4-3 result. In what looks like a fantastic turnaround from last season the thirds regained their winning ways with a 6-3 win over the Chaps. The fourths were also victorious with a 4-1 win over St. Brendans Phoenix Park so congrats to Graham and the lads on another great result. The 5th XI also seem like a team on the up and while they came second to Clontarf last Saturday they recorded their first win in recent seasons the weekend previous with a 4-1 win over Navan 2nds - lets hope it was more than just a blip in their usual form!

Our ladies teams are in flying form at the moment with the Ladies 1st XI getting back to form last weekend with a decisive 3-0 win over Genesis 2nds (a team coached by one William Powderly). Super goals were scored by Amy Armstrong, Susie Hayes and Tabby Keane. This result puts them top of Division 4 after four matches. The Ladies 2nd XI recorded their third win in a row under new captain Eimear O' Donnell by holding out for a 1-0 victory over Muckross 4ths. They are now 2nd in their league only on goal difference to Avoca 3rd XI, who they take on at 12.30 in Claremont Road this Saturday in the only other match being played by the club.

Spaces are now filling up for the YM dinner on November 24th in The Bank below The Dropping Well (if it has dried out by then!) Please email me at club.captain@ymcahc.ie if you would like to reserve a space, or a table. Tickets are a recession busting 50 which includes a three course meal, wine on tables, a late bar and a DJ! As always this promises to be a fantastic night for the club and as it is central to our fundraising efforts your support of the event is crucial. If you are able to donate a prize for the auction or raffle it would be much appreciated so please get in touch.

Best of luck to our two teams playing this weekend - and I hope to see as many people as possible down in Alex for the Mens 1sts game at 1.30
