Mon 12th Sep 2011
Greetings one and all,
Hockey season 2011-2012 is all but upon us and with over a month of preseason training under most team’s belts, I hope you are all raring to go!
The Mens 1sts - 3rds have been training hard and results from preseason friendlies have been very promising. This past weekend the 1sts won all three games at a preseason tournament in Cork and with some key players yet to arrive, the side is showing great potential for success this season.
A huge thanks to Ger and co for all of the work they have put in to date. The 1sts squad are still in need of a Manager so if you would like to take on this role please get in touch.
The Club are happy to welcome a number of new players on both the Mens and Ladies side of the club and it has been great to see a number of familiar faces back on the pitch again after a couple of years off! In addition there are a great bunch of guys coming through into the Senior teams from our Junior section and on behalf of the club I would like to wish them all the best for the upcoming season.
This weekend the league kicks off for our 3rds with an away match against Pembroke at 12.30 and our 4ths who play away to Athy (time TBC).
The Mens 1sts play their first competitive match of the season this Sunday with an away fixture against Fingal in the Neville Cup – tip off is at 12.00.
In relation to the Junior side of the Club this coming season we are very happy to have a girls Under 14 side for the first time in the Clubs history. This is a really positive move for the ladies side of the Club and will hopefully ensure their viability for years to come. There are still a number of spaces available on the girls U14 squad so please get in touch if you know of anyone who would like to join.
I would also like to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to Ray Bourke who has very kindly agreed to take over from Amy Armstrong as Club Treasurer. Ray is goalie Shane Bourke’s father and not only will he be looking after our finances this season but he also will continue to be an invaluable help to Peter and Kate Chadwick in running our Juniors section. I would encourage everybody to help Ray out by paying your subs in a timely manner and volunteering whenever you can to help out with the Juniors.
We have our first club social / fundraising event coming up on Saturday September 24th with a Table Quiz in the Bank below The Dropping Well – please do your best to attend and bring a team along (Teams of 4 - €10 per head) It promises to be a great night and as always the Club has a lot of bills to pay at the start of the season so your support of these events is much appreciated.
Finally subs are due in and if you want to get in at the early bird rate of €350 for a Full Members, €175 for full time Students and €150 for Pavilion members please get your subs in by this coming Friday (16th September) . After Friday subs will raise to €400 for Full Members and €200 for Students – after 14th October these rates will rise again to €450 and €225 so it is in your interests to get your subs in early!
Bank Details are: Sort Code: 90 00 17 Account No.: 59359800
Cheques can be made out to YMCA Hockey Club. You MUST make sure that you put your name in the narrative when doing a bank transfer or else we will not know who has paid. This is really important so don’t forget! Also please email Ray at firstname.lastname@example.org to let him know that you have paid.
Best of luck to all playing this weekend and here's hoping that Season 2011-2012 will be a success for us all both on and off the pitch!
