The season draws to a close for a number of our teams this weekend with the Mens 1sts playing their final league match against Corinthians on Sunday in Columbus at 2.30. The lads played fantastically in their game against Glenanne last Saturday to come out deserved 3-2 victors. With second place, and three home IHL matches next season now guaranteed I think we can all agree that it has been a very successful season.

Sunday will be Trevor Daggs last match in charge as he has made the decision to move on to pastures new, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank Trevor on behalf of the club for all of his hard work over the last number of seasons. I think the results speak for themselves and it is clear that Trevor has brought our 1sts from a team struggling to stay in Div 1 to a far more professional outfit who not only qualified for the IHL but came very close to winning the Leinster league this season. I know that Trevor will be sorely missed but I am sure that his legacy will live on and the team will continue to improve and prosper!

The team will be down in the Dropping Well post match on Sunday to celebrate the end of their season and Im sure they would be happy to see as many people there as possible.

Another team who hope to be celebrating in the Dropping Well on Sunday eve are the Ladies 2nds who are taking on old rivals Navan in the Leinster D11/12 cup final on the back pitch in Three Rock at 3.30 on Sunday. This is the only final the club are involved in this season so any and all support is welcome!

The Ladies 1sts finished off their season last weekend and again have won their league and secured promotion, next season sees them competing in the lofty heights of Division 4! Will has also decided to hang up his coaching boots after four highly successful seasons which includes 4 league titles, two Irish Hockey Challenge Cups and 3 Leinster Cups - not a bad haul! He of course will be badly missed and if anyone knows of someone that would be keen to fill his size 5 shoes next season please put them in touch with me!

The Mens thirds were extremely unlucky to lose out in the Semi Finals of their cup last weekend - the guys had the vast majority of possession and went down to a lucky silver goal 30 seconds before half time in extra time. This weekend they are away to N.Kildare in a bottom of the table 6 pointer - good luck to Frank and all the lads!

The 4ths have 5 games left to go and this Saturday are at home to Monkstown. Currently in second position in their league they will be hoping that the thirds can avoid relegation in the division above.

The 6ths also have a number of matches left to play this season - so there is still a chance that they might actually get a point or two...

Our Colts section have been very busy of late, over to Peter Chadwick for an update:

"The U16s had a momentous win last Sunday, beating TRR by 3 to 1 up in Grange Road with David Priestman, Andrew Jones and Uilliam (yes it is spelt that way) Blythman getting the goals. David Priestman's goal was particularly satisfying because it came as a result of a perfectly executed short corner switch and defection. To put this win in context - YM went into the game as underdogs because TRR had beaten us in our home game and had recently won the U16 Cup so much satisfaction in that result and tribute to all the work the players have put in during the season and also to the joint coaches Rob Anderson and Jamie Tobin. A fine team performance meant we were well worth the win and played much better hockey than they did. It is amazing what can be achieved when players actually do what the coaches ask them to do. "

The Colts Open Day is scheduled for the 8th of May in Alex from 1pm to 4pm. This is a very important event for the club as we are in need of extra members at the colts level. It is a fantastic opportunity for ALL club members to get potential players 6 years to 16 years involved in Hockey. Dig the relations out of the woodwork, ask the neighbours, everybody must know a kid somewhere that really wants to start playing hockey (or convert to a really good club from a not really good club), this is the once a year opportunity so please get out there and spread the word! We will be looking for volunteers closer to the time so be warned!

We shall be setting a date for our Annual General Meeting over the next week or so, please make sure you make every effort to be there!

Best of luck to all playing this weekend and please support the Ladies 2s on Sunday and come to the Dropping Well after the game!
