YMCA Hockey Club - Dublin
Welcome to the YMCA Hockey Club Website

Wed 1st Sep 2010

Hi all,

A couple of notices to bring to your attention in this edition of the YM newsletter.

Match Sec
On foot of my last email I am very happy to announce that Andrew Walker has saved the day and the season by volunteering to take on the Match Secretary role. On top of this Andrew is also organizing a fund raising lottery which should bring in some desperately needed funds to the club - more details of this to follow shortly. A massive thanks to Andrew for all of this and I urge you all to buy Andrew a pint the next time you see him out - he definitely gets my vote for player of the month!

Mens Firsts
In first team news, congratulations to Luke Chadwick and Rob Whelan who played for Ireland over the summer with the U18's (they won the home countries http://www.hookhockey.com/index.php/2010/08/cockram-double-nets-malaysian-win/) and to Iain Walker who was no. 1 keeper for the senior Irish team in the series against Maylsia (http://www.hookhockey.com/index.php/2010/08/cockram-double-nets-malaysian-win/).Its great to have such high achievers amongst us! Congratulations also to Bogger for his ongoing role as strength and conditioning coach with the senior Irish hockey teams.

Welcome back to Jamie Tobin who returns from UCD and to Jonny Bruton who comes from C of I.

Also on behalf of the club I would like to congratulate Luke Chadwick on winning a hockey scholarship to UCD, its a great achievement and we wish you the best of luck - you will be missed.

Finally, John Dible has taken on the role as Mens 1sts Manager - good luck John and thanks for volunteering!

Club Training
Mens 1sts and 2nds training is from 6.30 - 8.30 on Tuesdays and Thursday in Alexandra College, Milltown.

The Mens 3rds-6ths will this season also train in Alex on Tuesday evenings from 8.30 - 10. I know traditionally these teams haven't trained during the week, but going on last seasons results it might not be a bad idea to change that! Gavin Jones has very kindly offered to co-ordinate this training slot and will run either a coaching session or 5-a side matches depending on what the majority want. So get more from your subs...go training!

I would urge anyone interested to come along next Tuesday eve - it would be great to have good representation from all of our teams up in Alex and it also might improve our chances of getting some good results this season! This training slot in Alex will only be kept if it is being used so can anyone keen to get involved please let Gavin know by dropping him an email at gavin@jonesireland.eu

Membership / Discount Card
As mentioned in a previous email we are hoping to bring in a YM membership/ discount card this season. This will allow every sub paying member to avail of discounts at various businesses around Dublin. It is also hoped that the cards will allow members to support the businesses of fellow members - so if you have a business and would like to partake in the scheme please contact Graham Walker at grahamwalker16@hotmail.com. We will be setting up a page on our website listing the various businesses involved in the scheme so it should act as good advertising too. Thanks to Graham for organizing this!

Julian Hinds is now looking after the YM website (www.ymcahc.ie) so please keep an eye on the site for news stories, announcements and photos. If you have any photos/stories or ideas for the site please contact Jules at julian.hinds@hotmail.com or indeed if you would like to advertise on the site. Thanks Jules!

As always funding for the club is extremely tight, particularly at this time of the season. So I would urge you all to please pay your subs as soon as possible or Amy Armstrong will be on your case! If anyone would like to get involved with fund-raising, or is in a position to secure sponsorship for the club please contact any one on the committee to discuss (committee@ymcahc.ie)

Thats all the club news for now - if I have forgotten anything please let me know.

In the mean time - enjoy your pre-season training - whatever form it might take!
